The Legend of the Trinity

The kitsune had turned into a human right before they walked in. Tokhaji just stared at the woman, trying to figure out who she was.

"Um," Emerald said shyly. "This is Amber. She's a maid here and she's going to be helping. Then she gave a start. "Ah! You're awake!"
I pulled out of my shock in time to answer her. "Yep. I'm awake. And still alive, all thanks to you."
She blushed rose red.
Amber smiled with a sigh. "Taking care of criminals wasn't in my job description, but I've been known to have to do things beyond what I originally signed up for. Wouldn't you think so, Ms. Twilight Thief?" she smirked.
I tense and glance subtly away. Crap, she doesn't recognize me, does she?!
The maid suddenly put her hand to my forhead, giving me a start, and looked me full in the eyes. "Hmm..." she said in thought. "You're fever is still much to high..." she moved the back of her hand to my cheek. "And your skin is icy cold, though your complexion is gaining color." After another moment she straightened up and smiled at Emerald.
"You've done well so far, keeping it at bay like that. But you still have a lot to learn about fighting off a disease like this."

Tokha nodded, trying not to smile. "Yes. This disease is fatal, but there is still a lot about it we have yet to find out."

"See, at least one of the Warriors here has some sense! I suppose it's a good thing you've been demoted," she grinned. "Good. At least I can have confidence that you can watch her while I show Emerald here the ropes. But for now, here take some of this."
She stuffed a spoonful of a tonic she had brought with her into my mouth. I gagged.
"Ugh, that stuff's nasty!" I complained, sticking my tongue out.
She smiled, a new glint in her eye. "That means it's good for you," she said gently, and caught me off guard. Suddenly I was overcome with a feeling of nostalgia.
Then there was a ringing from down the hall.
"Oh, shoot, that's Crystal." She scooped up the fallen spoon and medicine. "I'm sorry, Emerald, I'm going to have to teach you later. You just keep up what you're doing and I'll come fetch you later. Take care."
Emerald nodded, and she left the three of us in here.

Tokhaji blinked. "I swear, she just keeps getting wierder and wierder."

OOC: Are you talking about Amber or Twili?

OOC: Amber. He doesn't see Twili as wierd, just ignorant, like how he sees (almost) all humans.

Both Emerald and I looked at him with surprise. "You know her?" we both said.

He nodded. "Yeah. When I first came here to join the Cardinals, she was always nagging me about the scars on my eye."

I had to grin at that. "Let me guess; she kept lecturing you about if you had taken better care off them they wouldn't have scared so badly."

"Yep. Of course, it's not really because I didn't care for them. It's just that the bastard who scratched me had poison on his claws." He then looked at Emerald. "Pardon my language."

"It's okay, " Emerald murmur, then looked at me. "Wait, do YOU know her too?"
I gave a start, off guard again. "Uhhh...well, I guess you can say that..." Crap! I've gotta be more careful! If these two find out too much...

Tokha just sighed. "Of course, if someone knows one of us, they're most likely to know both of us."

"But...I'm confused..."
I recovered myself again, and thought of a way to hide this. I suppose I can tell them that story...
"Well, Tokha knows her for a different reason than I." I sighed. "After all, I used to live here, actually."
She gave a start. "What?"

The kistune nodded. "It's true. In fact, this is the place where we first met."

OOC: ACk, he's not supposed to know that! Twili's never told anyone where she came from, and this was before she started her life in crime.

OOC: Okay then, he didn't say anything.

Tokha just stared at Twili. "Really now?"

OOC: He's so unemotional.

OOC: sorry, it's just really crucial that no one know about Twili's past...yet.

"Yeah. I was...a servant here once. I was really young when I came here, and Amber took care of me a lot. I was her apprentice, actually."
Emerald gave a start. "Then...you actually knew the princess?!"

OOC: Hey, it's okay. I can understand. No need to apologize.

"What?!" he asked, giving a start this time.

"Well, um..." I sighed. "If I'm going to tell you my story, I need you to promise not to mention this to Amber or anyone else, okay?"

Tokha just blinked. "Um... sure, whatever you say."

I closed my eyes and lowered my head a little. "This is how I became the Twilight Thief."

When I was about...six, my parents died, leaving me alone and without a friend. We didn't have much to start with, but it was more than what I was left with. There are a lot of kids actually who had to live the way I did at that age. But I was lucky; I didn't have to live long enough like that to actually suffer from it. I was found by the royal family, and they took me into the pallace where I made my new home as a servant.
That's when I met the princess. She was...a very odd girl, but unimaginable kind. And she was lonely, just like me. She wasn't allowed out of the castle, wasn't allowed to be told any stories. All by order of the king. But she took a liking to me, the strange grubby orphan from the world beyond the castle. Of course, I myself have never been too far past the town walls. But we became fast friends nonetheless, and I became her favorite servant.
I don't know why the King had banished story-telling from the princess, or why he never let her outside. But I do know this; she was incurably bored and curious. She wanted to know what it was like outside, wanting to hear stories again. I being her best friend, I didn't like seeing her so unhappy and so depressed all the time, so I decided to go out and be her eyes, ears, and feelings. I snuck out of the castle through her window, desguised in black, and scaled the castle walls. The land lay vastly before me, the wind in my face, the smell of the wild country-side...it was the first time I actually felt real freedom...

Tokah closed his eye. "And so, you became the Twilight Thief, correct?"

"Not quite," I said with a smirk. "I only officially became it after I met you."

My first trip out, and I ran into a little trouble. Some how or another I got caught up in a raid, and was chased around by some soldiers. But luckily I was quick, and the night was on myside. All in all, though, my idea had been a sucess. Not only did I have a story to tell the Princess, but I had trinkets from the raid as a suvenier.
She was enthralled. She had know more, to hear more. She even stole some gear here and there to better "suit" me up, and made me into a kind of fantasy-hero. I would leave her window at dusk, just as the sun was falling below the hills, and return at Dawn with a new story to tell. I was started to earn a rep around the kingdom, and she started calling me her "Twilight Thief." But like I said, I didn't officially earn that title until one night of the new moon, when I would steal away into a target that was already being worked in by another.

Tokha just smiled. "This is where it gets good, I can feel it."
