The Light In the Dark

the world is torn apart by a huge nuclear war that was 40 years ago the land is full of destruction and old things from the world before that are now usless. there are a few colonies that have stayed civilized and were not cought near one of the bombs. our story starts with Jacob and Goliath walking down an old highway trying to find shelter from the burning heat

*Jacob was hiding in Goliaths shadow to stay cool as they walk*

J: DAAAAAMN IT'S HOT!!!. there has to be like an old gas station or something around here

Chaos was lying down in the shade of one of the alleyways in his cat form, trying to catch some rest after being nearly killed by dogs. Although he could become a human, animals could still see his true form: a cat. His miscolored eyes scanned the gloomy street ahead of him, his ears pricked for any signs of interesting activity, and possibly a chance for food. This place is too hot and gloomy. Stupid human wars.
He looked up at the gray sky and sniffed. Rain's gonna come soon. Chaos then sighed, and decided to move on. He stood and stretched while turning into human form, then went onto the street in search of something that meant food or anything that peaked his interest.

JD was walking through the city streets taking in the atmosphere of destruction with no faze whatsoever. As he lived in one of the human activity hotspots, no trained mutants were in the area and he was allowed to play it cool.
Except for the fact that the day was so dang hot! JD climbed upon his wolfhound, Core. "Lets do something today," JD said, "Maybe go survivor searching? Or sewer scouting? I want to do something today."
Core yipped in response. That usually means Yes or OUCH! JD assumed the first.
"Lets go see mom. Maybe she will let us travel the highway to the next city."
Core nodded and launched forward in a lumbering gallop towards the Mercy Hospital that was converted into an apartment complex/medical center. It was the only place the elders could get the generators to work. It had electicity, but unfortunately no running water.
JD wiped his brow. "This'll be fun."

*Jacob and Goliath could see a city up ahead*

J: thank god finaly we might have some shade

*Goliath just noded*

J: it a miracle we havnt run into anymore mutants of raiders yet. and if i ever see anothe Death claw i'll crap my pants

*Goliath just stared at Jacob*

J: .....shut up

*Jacob and Goliath now entered the city*

Chaos had only walked a few paces when a new scent hit him. He turned around to see a young boy and an even bigger person walking together, but they were still too far away to see all the details. Chaos turned back in the direction he was heading and kept walking.
Maybe if I just keep going, they won't bother me. They both smell like human, but...

Core screeched to a halt, sniffing the air.
JD grimaced. "One nod for mutant, two for human."
Core nodded three times and barked.
"Both?!" JD thought aloud, incredulously. "Get going, boy!"
Core leapt forward again like a stallion, barreling for the edge of town.

*Jacob and Goliath were walking along and Jacob continued running his mouth. the sudenly Goliath put his hand on Jacobs chest stoping him*

J: what?

*Goliath pointed up ahead. Jacob looked and could just bairly make out Chaos in the disatance*

J: another surviver or a mutant

*Goliath shrugs*

J: lets get closer and find out

*They started walking faster in order to catch up with him*

The cat sensed them getting closer, and so he stopped and turned to face them, his miscolored eyes shining with cautiousness

*Jacob and Goliath approached Chaos. Jacob then wispers to Goliath "he looks human"*

J: um hello i'm Jacob and this is my friend Goliath. we were wondering if you know if there is anywere to stay around here

He nodded in respect. "I'm Chaos Black. A place to stay?" Chaos chuckled a little. "I was looking for one myself."

Damn there hast to be somwere safe to stay around here. and i dont trust staying in some of these buildings. a few we've found were crawling with mutants. those flesh eating basterds are uuuuuugly

"Are they now?" Chaos inquired, trying to restrain from going to cat form and actually purring in amusement. "I've haven't seen any of the mutants yet, but I don't think I want to."

J: yeah they usualy atack in swarms so if you see one take him down before he can call others

Chaos nodded, looked at Goliath, then back at Jacob. "I don't mean to be rude, but can he not speak?"

J: nope ever since i met him he's never spoken a word so i think he's mute

Chaos blinked. "So, how do you talk to him then?"

J: well he either points to what he thinks is important or wrights down what he needs to say

JD rears back Core, observing the conversation. "Two mutants and a human just chatting it up... I better approach soundly. Core, stay alert." And with that he gallops up to the three. "New arrivals?" He asked calmy.

*Jacob turns his head*

J: huh.. OH um yeah were new around here and were trying to find somwere to stay

Chaos was about to answer as well when he noticed the wolf. He seemed to stiffen. Damn, a wolf! I'd better try to keep cool. He's probably already seen that I'm a cat, but maybe if I act human, he'll just leave me alone.

I stretched, sore and feeling almost mishapen. "Geez, that was unpleasant...that's the last time I play portal-guinepig. Now to figure out where the heck they sent me." I sat up and looked around. Whoa. This place is trashed. What the hell happened here?
I heard voices in the distance, a conversation going on. Maybe they know what's going on here.
I transitioned into the shadow plane and made mad dashes across the ground to where ever a shadow appeared; where ever I am it must be summer time because it is BRIGHT and SUNNY. And hot. Not that that really bothers me; I'm only a Shadow, after all.

Core sniffed at the air, suspicious of the new arrivals, but gave no response of dislike.

JD hopped down from his steed of a dog. "You need a place to stay, eh?" As for you?" He looked at Chaos expectantly.

Chaos just scoffed and looked away. "Nah, I'm good, thanks."

J: so do you know a place?

"Yeah, we managed to get the generators at the Mercy hospital working six months ago, so the remnant of the city are living there. I'm sure I could talk my mom... err... The mayor, to scrounge up a room." JD turned to the other stranger with catlike eyes. "Are you sure you don't want a place for the evening? The city is mostly unsafe. Main Street is the only safe path through here. If you want, Core can guide you to the other side of town, or you can come with us."
